Gov. Katie Hobbs made good on her new bill moratorium Tuesday, vetoing three measures as collateral until Republican lawmakers publicly show their budget plan.
Hobbs vetoed three House bills that received final approval in the Senate last week but weren’t transmitted to her office until Monday, making them fair game for Hobbs’ pledge to veto every bill that crosses her desk until Republicans share their budget proposal.
“On April 13, I announced a bill moratorium and asked the legislative majority to show the people of Arizona their budget proposal so that we can engage in good faith budget negotiations,” Hobbs wrote in veto letters for all three bills.
However, the three measures — House Bill 2033Track (statewide assessment; written form; requirements), House Bill 2093Track (mental health instruction requirement; repeal) and House Bill 4033Track (school bonding; ballot language) — were likely to be rejected regardless of the bill moratorium. All three cleared the House and Senate on party-line votes, with Democrats opposing each measure.
Republicans in the Legislature are pivoting after Hobbs threw a bill moratorium curveball right before lawmakers took the House and Senate floor Monday.
