Glendale City Council candidates respond to questions

By Richard Smith | Glendale Independent

Four Glendale City Council candidates are running for election in two districts in the July 21 primary election.

The Independent asked the candidates biographical information and platform-related questions. Three responded.

Here are their answers:

Barrel District

NameAge: 57 Lisa Baker

Years living in Glendale: 33 total

Employment: Licensed Realtor/Global Real Estate Advisor

Community involvement: City of Glendale – Community Development Advisory Committee, Citizen Bond Election Committee; Glendale Woman’s Club chair of conservation and preservation committee; Glendale Citizens’ Police Academy alumni; Glendale Chamber of Commerce public policy committee, diversity, equity, and inclusion committee, board of directors, interim president and CEO

Why did you choose to run? I am running to put the people’s priorities first by making sure Barrel District residents are heard and their priorities are addressed by the city council.

What do you see as the biggest issue facing your district heading into the next four year? The biggest issues facing the Barrel District are public safety, affordability and responsible growth. Residents want safe neighborhoods, stronger community policing, and better communication between the city and the community. I support strengthening public safety, bringing back block watch programs, and ensuring our police and fire departments have the resources they need. Affordability is also a growing concern as rising housing costs and inflation impact families and seniors. Glendale must support local businesses, attract quality jobs, and practice responsible budgeting without raising taxes.
