Pinal County road upgrades win national award

By Pinal Central

Pinal County’s upgrades to Combs and Kenworthy roads received national acclaim from the American Public Works Association.

The project won “Public Works Project of the Year, Transportation” for projects between $5 million and $25 million in 2026. It also won Project of the Year in the same category for the Arizona chapter of APWA.

The project will be formally recognized during the statewide conference in Tucson on July 30 as well as at the APWA Awards Recognition Ceremony in Houston on Aug. 31.

“This is a perfect example of how a public/private partnership can work to get things done faster,” Pinal County Development Services Director Joe Ortiz said in a statement from Pinal County.
