Key Points from the Regular Meeting held on August 5, 2026
Pinal County Sheriff Ross Teeple announced the cancellation of the Sheriff’s Office contract with Flock Safety, citing 4th amendment concerns with the company’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) Cameras. Later in the afternoon, Sheriff Teeple released the video below on social media.
After Public Hearings, the Board approved three planning and zoning items as presented. These included development of a photovoltaic (solar) power generation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) under the Ore Town Solar Project on 1,227± acres, located east of San Manuel within a portion of the historic and now decommissioned San Manuel Copper Mine site complex (Items 10/11); and a Rezone from ±3.86-acres of RV Recreational Vehicle Homesite Zone to MH-8 Manufactured Homes Zoning District to allow compatible low-density development on approximately one-acre lots, located north of the intersection of S. Montgomery Rd. and W. Cornman Rd., 0.75 miles north of exit 167 on Interstate 8, west of the City of Casa Grande. (Item 15)
The Board approved a proclamation declaring the month of August 2026 as “Child Support Awareness Month,” highlighting the vital role that consistent financial, medical, and emotional support plays in children’s well-being, poverty reduction, and family stability. James Stormzand from the Department of Economic Security’s Division of Child Support Services is pictured below with the Board of Supervisors. Supervisor Miller attended the meeting telephonically. In the Supervisors District Update, District 2 Supervisor Mike Goodman thanked everyone who took part in the Stuff the Bus back-to-school initiative. District 1 Supervisor Rich Vitiello said he has had recent meetings with Global Water in Maricopa and the Gila River Indian Community Economic Development Department, and also attended the NACo (National Association of Counties) Conference in July. District 3 Supervisor Stephen Miller thanked well-wishers who sent him cards and emails following back surgery at the start of July. Miller also played a video highlighting the Papoose Road Asphalt Rock Dust Palliative (ARDP) Project between Casa Grande and Maricopa, which was completed recently. The Board approved Supervisor Goodman’s appointment of Aaron S. Santillana, Sr., from San Tan Valley to the Merit System Commission, through May 7, 2030. Aaron is pictured right with Supervisor Goodman. The Merit System Commission acts as an appeals board in cases of disciplinary action, including termination, taken by a County department head or elected official.
The Board approved the reappointment of Harold Christ to the Pinal County Workforce Development Board through August 5, 2028. Harold, who owns the Windmill Winery in Florence, represents the business sector. Harold is pictured right with the Board of Supervisors and Joel Millman, Pinal County’s Director of Economic & Workforce Development. The Workforce Development Board coordinates activities with education and training providers in the local area.
In the County Manager’s Report, Leo Lew said three Supervisors, along with members of the Planning & Zoning Commission and several County staff, were hosted by the City of Goodyear in a continuing education exercise related to data centers. Attendees heard from Goodyear Community Development and Economic Development staff, before a presentation and tour by Vantage, which built and operates a data center in the City. Lew reminded the Board that a work session with AI data center experts is scheduled for next Wednesday’s Work Session Meeting.
