Voters in southwest Phoenix will soon decide an influential City Council race that may help chart the course of the city for the next few years.

Those living in District 7 have a choice in the March 9 election between two candidates: Yassamin Ansari and Cinthia Estela.

The city is mailing early ballots out this week, and in-person voting  began at City Hall on Feb. 10. Here’s more on how and where to vote, and where to look up your district.

Phoenix has two council races on the March ballot. The other is the District 3 race in north-central and parts of north Phoenix, where incumbent Debra Stark faces challenger Nicole Garcia.

District 7 sprawls across parts of west Phoenix, downtown and Laveen.

The winner of the race will replace Councilmember Michael Nowakowski, who is serving out the end of his third consecutive term and therefore has reached the city’s term limits.
