Scottsdale’s chapter on desert rural land-use category appears to have come to an end, as the City Council agreed to abandon the effort during a May 4 work session.
The city’s proposed category drew heavy oppositionfrom state officials, among others, in recent weeks, as Scottsdale sought to preserve large residential lots in its northern area. The proposal included adding a minor amendment approval in order to change land-use category if you owned a large lot.
However, the Arizona State Land Department argued Scottsdale’s proposal put an additional burden on land owners that was not previously there, which is illegal.
