Discussion ensues around Scottsdale ‘walk-only zones’ pilot program

Embedded within a municipal “organization strategic plan” is a new pilot program for Old Town Scottsdale, that seeks to make the tourist area more walkable.

Initially, this pilot program sought to close down certain Old Town streets once per month for walk-only zones. After discussion at the dais, the City Council approved a pilot program to “temporarily turn some Old Town streets into more walkable areas” in an effort to encourage more foot traffic and business activities, including “focused activities and events.”

On July 1, when the City Council was set to issue a consent vote on the strategic plan Councilwoman Kathy Littlefield pulled the item off the agenda for further discussion and a roll-call vote. The plan passed 6-1, with Littlefield dissenting.
