Most of Gilbert’s workers haven’t had pay hike in years

While the vast majority of Gilbert employees, including police officers, paramedics and clerks, have gone several years without a pay raise, a handful of workers, primarily in upper management, have quietly been more fortunate.
More than two dozen employees have seen their pay jump over the past two years, through promotions, reorganizations or other reasons, according to data obtained by The Republic. Officially, merit-based raises were last doled out in 2007, and cost-of-living adjustments were given in 2008.

The most-recent pay increases, which came without public announcement, benefited high-ranking officials in Gilbert’s Economic Development, Finance and Human Resources departments, which were reorganized by new Town Manager Patrick Banger. In some cases, new titles came with raises ranging from 5 percent to 59 percent.
