At their most recent meeting, Pinal County Board of Supervisors outlined Pinal County,s five-year Transportation Improvement and Maintenance Program (TIMP) for Budget Year 2012‐2013 through 2016‐2017 which included several projects in and around the Arizona City area. The TIMP budget, which was approved during the meeting, included two construction projects in Arizona City.

The first construction project on Battaglia Drive, currently in the design phase,  includes the construction of turn lanes on Battaglia Drive in front of the new Food Town IGA and Arizona City Post Office.  This project was prioritized by the Board of Supervisors, with construction bidding to begin in November 2013. Construction of the actual turn lanes, which was scheduled to begin by the end of summer 2014, was rescheduled to start in spring 2014.

Estimated at a cost of $600,000, the project is funded by the Pinal County Transportation Excise Tax, a half-cent sales tax approved by voters in 2005. The sole purpose of the “road tax” is to fund construction, maintenance and roadside development projects throughout the county. Shopping and buying gasoline locally ensure that quality transportation projects are planned and implemented county-wide.
