Goodyear announces plans to create downtown area called GSQ

By KTAR

PHOENIX — The city of Goodyear and Globe Corporation announced plans last week to develop a mixed-used, walkable downtown area called GSQ.

Construction on project, which would be located north of McDowell Road between Bullard Avenue and PebbleCreek Parkway, could begin as soon as 2023 if approved by the city council in the coming months, city officials said in a press release.

“Over the years, the city has always been focused on a vision that truly reflects the wishes of our residents — a destination where they can live, work and play,” City Manager Julie Karins said in the release.

The property where GSQ would lie on includes Goodyear City Hall, Civic Square Park and Globe’s GEN1 Class A office building and parking garage.

In the future, the urban center would include restaurants, entertainment, shopping and residential living.

“GSQ will jump start this part of the city to soon be the robust downtown everyone has been waiting for,” George Patz, president and CEO of Globe, said in the release.
