Republican Kelly Cooper is running again for the U.S. House from Arizona’s 4th Congressional District.
Cooper, a Marine Corps veteran and entrepreneur, was last year’s GOP nominee against Rep. Greg Stanton, D-Ariz.
“My commitment is to put People Over Politics, put our economy back on track, fix our border, protect educational freedom and stop government overreach,” Cooper said Tuesday in a written statement.
Stanton defeated Cooper in November by 32,420 votes. The 4th district incorporates sections of Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa and Chandler and is considered competitive, voting Democratic 1% more than the country as a whole.
This will be the second time Cooper has run for office. He faced a tough Aug. 2 GOP primary, defeating five other candidates to become the Republican nominee against Stanton, a former Phoenix mayor and now three-term member of Congress.
The economy was a major issue in the race, with Stanton running on legislation passed under the Biden administration: the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act. Cooper attributed large-scale government spending for widespread inflation.
Cooper was endorsed Oct. 10 by former President Donald Trump.
