The city of Buckeye may be getting another parcel of land dedicated to light industrial uses.
The Buckeye Planning and Zoning Commission on Jan. 24 recommended for approve a plan to rezone 54 acres from heavy industrial to light industrial.
Andrea Marquez, senior planner for special projects for the city, present the project to the commission during a public hearing regarding the land west of the southeast corner of Southern Avenue and Rainbow Road.
The item was recommended for approval by the commission, but will need the city council to weigh in before taking affect.
Marquez, who presented the project from owner Buckeye 54 LLC, said the plan proposes the land use for employment designation to contribute to the local and regional economy.
Uses may include industrial, such as warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and business parks. Industrial uses will be buffered or separated from existing or planned residential uses, with access provided to arterial roadways.
To conform to the city’s general plan, meet the development code and to accommodate development of the site with light industrial uses as proposed, rezoning to light industrial or business park will be is necessary to make the parcel legal conforming. The applicant is requesting light industrial.
