Approximately three months after a city ordinance requiring short-term rentals operating within Scottsdale to register took effect, approximately 1,500 have yet to do so, according to city records.
As of April 2, 3,551 short-term rentals have applied to register with the city. That is out of approximately 5,000-plus known vacation rentals.
Many City Council members are by and large happy with those results so far.
“I think it’s a pretty decent number considering it’s a pretty new program … It’s just going to take a while to get everyone under control,” Councilmember Tom Durham said.
He figures some owners haven’t registered yet because they are still not aware of the requirement or have questions about the process.
Councilwoman Betty Janik is also happy with the results so far, but figures people have a more selfish reason for not yet registering.
