Inflation is jeopardizing many of the projects that Chandler voters authorized in the 2021 bond election.
In fact, some of those projects will run out of money halfway through the city’s 10-year capital improvement plan.
That includes parks and recreation, police and street projects.
“Parks, police are two that will run out the soonest,” said Matt Dunbar, the city’s budget and policy officer.
Those two departments both have a major ticket item that has dramatically increased in price. The police department’s new forensic center has jumped from a $30 million cost to $50 million.
The expansion of the multigenerational facility at Tumbleweed Park was planned to cost $13.9 million. Now, it will likely cost $28 million.
