Maricopa County’s newest assistant manager to oversee planning department

By Rose Law Group Reporter

Darcy Kober was appointed to the assistant county manager position in April 2023. She has six reporting departments that directly interact with the public, including Air Quality, Environmental Services, Flood Control District, Planning and Development, Real Estate, and Transportation (MCDOT).

Darcy began her career with Maricopa County in 1998 in the Environmental Services Department, becoming an Arizona registered sanitarian and working in various environmental health programs. She moved to the City of Phoenix in 2006, and over the next 12 years, held positions in the Planning & Development and Housing departments, before serving as Deputy Director in Neighborhood Services. In 2018, Darcy returned to Maricopa County as the Environmental Services Director. Throughout her career, she has worked to connect citizens with critical services and to bring efficiency to local government.

County Manager Jen Pokorski says, “Darcy has done a fantastic job leading our Environmental Services Department.  The two of us have worked closely together since before the pandemic to make sure our regulatory departments protect public safety while also enabling economic growth.  Darcy will take over management of six of the departments I previously oversaw.  She joins a strong executive team that includes Lee Ann Bohn and Valerie Beckett.”
