Mayor Gallego selected chair of Maricopa Association of Governments

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego is the new chair of the Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Council, and she plans to make the extension of Proposition 400 — the half-cent sales tax that funds transportation infrastructure in the county — her top priority in the job.

Gallego was selected Wednesday during the agency’s annual meeting and take over the post from Avondale Mayor Ken Weise. Others elected to the council were Chandler Mayor Kevin Harte as vice chair, El Mirage Mayor Alexis Hermosillo as treasurer and at-large members Buckeye Mayor Eric Orsborn, Gilbert Mayor Brigette Peterson. Moving into the position of past chair will be Mesa Mayor John Giles and Weise.
