Northwest Gilbert is home to the densest employment corridor with over 37% of the town’s jobs, particularly those related to science, technology, engineering and math.
The area also boasts 22% of Gilbert’s parcels with a foreclosure history, the most police calls and the most code violation calls.
Now, the town has the ability to address signs of decline in one of the most mature areas in the community.
Council last week approved the boundary for the Northwest Gilbert Redevelopment Area –Arizona Avenue on the east, Lindsay Road on the west, Baseline Road on the north and Ray Road on the south. The Heritage District is not included as it has its own redevelopment designation.
“Keep in mind no goals or strategies for this redevelopment area have been developed yet,” said Amanda Elliott, Redevelopment Program manager. “So that allows a tremendous amount of flexibility for the public to opine on which tools we should bring forth to the council in a redevelopment plan.”
