A 274-room hotel is planned to be added to next to the Shops at Norterra in north Phoenix.

The hotel is planned to have two different companies as tenants, though none have been announced yet.

The hotel will take up about a quarter-acre at the southwest corner of a 5.3-acre parcel at the northeast corner of 23rd Avenue and Happy Valley Road received initial site plan approval from the city of Phoenix on Monday.

The project is part of a 397-acre Norterra planned unit development, which wraps around the north and east of USAA campus and Shops at Norterra. Much of that has been built out in the past five years to include single- and multi-family housing, retail, parks and a new K-8 school.
