A lobbyist for “The Arizona Starter Homes Act” said today he’s unsure if the bill will be introduced again next legislative session.
In an interview for the Arizona Capitol Times Q&A series, Jake Hinman, a lobbyist representing the Arizona Neighborhood Project, said the bill might not be reintroduced next session after it was unsuccessful for two consecutive years.
“Maybe we’re not ready for starter homes and home ownership just yet in Arizona,” Hinman said.
The lack of success dates back even further to former Sen. Steve Kaiser’s attempt at getting a zoning reform bill through the Legislature in 2023, although that bill was the predecessor to what would become the Starter Homes Act in Senate Bill 1229 (planning; home design; restrictions; prohibition).
