Supervisor Galvin’s Message
Hello Neighbors,
Like many of you, my family and I are preparing for the start of the new school year and savoring the end of summer break. While it may be hot out, that hasn’t slowed us down and we have lots of exciting work ahead!
Checking Goals Off The List
When I became Chairman, I made a list of goals I wanted to accomplish over the course of the year. As we accomplish each goal, I mark them off the list. Check out this video showing off our accomplishments from the year so far.
D2 Highlights
Arcadia Little League: Root, Root, Root for the Home Team!
This week I had the honor of congratulating some of our youngest, and most impressive residents in District 2. Arcadia’s 12-U Little League team won the state championship and is now headed to the Regional Tournament to compete for a spot in the Little League World Series! Tune into ESPN+ this weekend to cheer on Arcadia team! Check out the clip below from Arizona Daily Mix about our visit!

The Sheriff’s Office: Monitoring the Monitor
When I became Chairman, I was adamant in my effort to protect your tax dollars and find a way to end the lengthy federal oversight of the Sheriff’s Office. This month I attended a public meeting hosted by the court-appointed monitor who is paid about $2 million annually by Maricopa County taxpayers. This federal oversight has cost about $350 million over the last 15 years. Read my statement from the meeting below.

The Rising Star Award
As Chairman, I created the Rising Stars Award to honor county employees who have made a large impact early on in their government careers. This month we announced our inaugural class of Rising Star recipients. These individuals were honored with a luncheon ceremony and will now be part of a network of future county leaders. Congrats to our five award winners!

Independent Election Review
In June, I followed through on my promise as Board Chair to conduct an independent review of Maricopa County Elections. Following a biding process, the County hired BerryDunn, an award-winning auditing and accounting firm, to review our elections procedures. Maricopa County conducts world class elections, but there is always room for improvement, and I’m committed to finding ways to better our process. You can learn more about this vote in these articles written by KTAR, AZ Mirror and Signals.
Honored with the Greater Phoenix Chamber’s Sentinel Award
Last month, I was honored to receive the Sentinel Award from the Greater Phoenix Chamber’s annual awards ceremony. This award recognizes public servants who defend and advocate in the best interest of business and the free market. As Chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors my goal is to promote prosperity and ensure security. Quality of life matters!

In the News
I spoke with Brahm Resnik on Sunday Square Off about the county’s FY26 budget that bumped pay for public safety workers. I also spoke about new strategies for ending court oversight of the sheriff’s office, which has cost taxpayers more than $350 million. Watch it here.
On Politics Unplugged, I spoke with Dennis Welch about what the county is spending its FY26 budget on. Watch it here.
I joined Ted Simons on Arizona Horizon to discuss the budget and the latest on elections in Maricopa County. Watch it here.
Phoenix Business Journal Op-Ed
This month, our budget for FY2026 took effect. I am proud to maintain Maricopa County’s strong reputation of fiscal prudence, without skimping on quality service for residents and employees alike. Learn more in my recent op-ed from Phoenix Business Journal.
Quarterly Monitor Meeting
I’ve been outspoken in my criticism of the costly and seemingly endless Melendres Orders. Earlier this month I was able to speak directly to our court-appointed monitor and many angry constituents who want to see this federal overreach end. Thank you to the media outlets that were able to cover this:

Nonprofit Spotlight

Sunshine Acres
In the heart of District 2 lies a miracle in the desert: Sunshine Acres. For decades, founders Reverand James Dingman and his wife Vera prayed for a way to help homeless children in the Valley. Today, that prayer has flourished into a multi-acre property that hosts dozens of struggling children without severing their parents’ rights. Children live in groups of 10 or less with house parents as their live-in care providers. This incredible organization runs entirely on the generosity of the community without any government funding.
What to Chew in District 2
Local Favorite: Haji Baba
For a taste of Mediterranean cuisine right here in the Valley of the Sun, check out Haji Baba. The restaurant, located in Tempe off Apache Boulevard and Rural Road, also boasts a grocery store with specialized ingredients. From hummus, to gyros, to kababs, you can’t go wrong with any dish from this 40-year-old Valley establishment.
