FLORENCE — The Town Council approved a new facade grant program over the “no” vote of Vice Mayor Cathy Adam, who said there was still too much being left to chance.
“We have invested a lot of hours on this by a lot of people, and we are not getting credit on the street — to the contrary, we’re gettin’ dinged, because there’s so much confusion about this,” Adam said.
The town has offered funding to help businesses improve their building fronts or “facades” over the last several years. The current town budget has $21,000 for this program, providing 50% of a project’s cost up to $7,000.
