Today, Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman and Rose Law Group Partner Thomas Galvin declared a local emergency due to damage from the microburst that hit Tempe earlier this week. The declaration follows the City’s own emergency declaration and paves the way for possible federal disaster funds to help affected residents rebuild.
“Initial assessments from county-led disaster assessment teams indicate more than 200 homes sustained significant damage in the October 13 microburst,” said Chairman Galvin, who represents parts of Tempe in Supervisorial District 2. “My colleague, Supervisor Mark Stewart, and I are committed to doing everything we can to help our constituents recover during this difficult time. I’d also like to thank Tempe Mayor Corey Woods for his leadership and partnership.”
Maricopa County’s declaration will allow the State of Arizona to act and, if warranted, seek a Major Disaster Declaration from the federal government. If that happens, impacted residents could be eligible for direct financial assistance from FEMA or disaster recovery loans from the Small Business Administration.
