Months after devastating floods swept through Gila and Mohave counties, a bipartisan congressional letter seeking federal disaster relief has drawn attention for who signed it and who did not.
Republican Rep. Andy Biggs, a leading candidate for governor, did not sign the letter sent to the Trump administration requesting millions in federal disaster relief for affected communities like Globe-Miami. His GOP gubernatorial opponent, Rep. David Schweikert, did sign the letter.
The September floods turned streets into rivers, wrecked homes and tore apart water lines in Globe-Miami. Three people died and damages were estimated at more than $30 million.
The Trump administration declined requests to help pay for recovery efforts that Globe’s mayor said were essential.
