Scottsdale group moves to block city’s ‘compromise’ with Axon

A Scottsdale group fighting Axon’s massive new headquarters is launching fresh legal action to undo a compromise the City Council approved late last year.

A preliminary complaint filed Monday in Maricopa County Superior Court is challenging the legality of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Axon and Scottsdale. It was filed by Taxpayers Against Awful Apartment Zoning Exemptions (TAAAZE), led by former Scottsdale city councilman Bob Littlefield.

Specifically, it claims the MOU is actually a zoning ordinance in disguise, and thus did not undergo the full due process, which would’ve included a housing impact statement, a public hearing, and consideration of the rights of Scottsdale residents.

TAAAZE argues that the new deal gives Axon perks it never received under earlier agreements, particularly regarding water and inspection requirements.
