A seven-hour wait for a bill that didn’t get heard left people unable to speak about the measure, which would have allowed federal agents into a polling place.

A striker amendment to Senate Bill 1570Track (security; polling places; citizenship) would have required county officials to enter into a written agreement with federal immigration law enforcement personnel to be present at polling places for the 2026 general election. Technically, the bill is dead, but it could come back as an amendment or a striker on another bill.

Around 2 p.m., Sen. Wendy Rogers announced the bill would not be heard because Sen. Jake Hoffman wasn’t present. He has been ill. The striker was filed by Rogers, who chairs the Senate Judiciary and Elections Committee.
