Hobbs’ office: GOP budget doesn’t add up

Gov. Katie Hobbs has not publicly committed to vetoing the Republican budget that passed the House and is eventually headed to her desk, but the governor’s staff says the GOP plan isn’t balanced or responsible enough for her signature.

Hobbs’ office is criticizing the Republican budget plan for sweeping or cutting critical funds for prison healthcare, wildfire prevention, emergency management and other priorities. The governor’s office is also arguing that Republicans have not done their homework on their fund sweeps, saying some state funds would land in the red if the GOP budget passes.

Accounts that could potentially be stuck in the hole include the Automobile Theft Authority Fund, the Housing Trust Fund, the Off Highway Vehicle Fund, the Construction Insurance Fund and the Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry’s prison healthcare fund.
