Arizona joined with the rest of the country this past weekend to celebrate the United States’ 250th anniversary with a nod to the state’s history and an eye towards its future.
With America’s birthday in the rearview mirror, there’s little time to rest as candidates for local, state and congressional races prepare for the July 21 primary election, which is about two weeks away.
Here are five things to watch this week:
Corporation Commission expected to ditch electric energy efficiency rules
The Arizona Corporation Commission is set to repeal its electric energy efficiency rules at a meeting on Wednesday. The all-Republican commission voted unanimously in September to initiate the repeal of the rules, which require electric utilities to achieve an annual energy savings of 22% through energy efficiency, load management or demand-response programs. Wednesday’s repeal vote is the latest in a series of actions from a commission looking to eliminate the red tape imposed on the utility companies it regulates.
