The City Council will hold a study session on Monday with an overview of a property rights claim regarding a proposed data center development on the west side.
The July 20 study session will feature a presentation on the Arizona Private Property Rights Protection Act, commonly known as Proposition 207, and how it applies to the city’s recent zoning decisions involving data centers.
According to city officials, the discussion is not intended to determine whether data center projects are appropriate for Casa Grande. Instead, it will focus on a specific Proposition 207 notice filed against the city and the legal process surrounding the claim.
The claim involves approximately 480 acres in the city’s industrial area near the southwest corner of North Bianco Road and West Clayton Road. If developed, the campus could include up to 13 buildings totaling approximately 3.25 million square feet.
According to Pinal County Assessor’s Office records, the development area includes parcels owned by Vernon Barnes and the Mesa-based Ethington & Hwy 84 LLC.
Staff will present a history of the zoning amendments, review the city planners’ original zoning interpretation, explain the provisions of Proposition 207 and outline the city’s proposed approach to resolving the matter.
