Porsche Concours d’Elegance Car Show Joins Horsepower at Scottsdale Ferrari-Maserati Polo Championships
Porsche 356 Models from the 1950s and ’60s to be Displayed Alongside Newer Porsche Panamera

(SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.) – For lovers of exotic cars, the Third Annual Scottsdale Ferrari-Maserati Polo Championships: Horses+Horsepower is a rare opportunity to see the grace of meticulously designed Porsches alongside the grace of the Sport of Kings.

Polo Event in ScottsdaleThe Concours d’Elegance Car Show of the Arizona Region of the Porsche Club of America will make its debut at the event and will feature a wide range of impressive vehicles. Porsche 356 models from the 1950s and early 1960s will be onsite. Event-goers will get the chance to see Porsche 911 models from the 1960s through today. Older Porsche models such as the 914, 924, 944, 968 and 928 as well as newer models like the Porsche Boxster and Cayman, the Porsche Cayenne SUV and the four door Porsche Panamera will add significant horsepower to the WestWorld polo fields.

“The Arizona Porsche Club is looking forward to partnering with the Horses and Horsepower event this year,” said Dwane Stewart, president of the Arizona Region of the Porsche Club of America. “It should be a great venue for our annual Concours and charity event.  We are excited to display some 80-100 cars at this prestigious event.”

The polo event is the only place in the Southwest where you can simultaneously hear exotic engine purrs, the clinking of champagne glasses and the cracks of polo mallets hitting their target.

The event, now with some real horsepower in its title with Scottsdale Ferrari-Maserati coming on as title sponsor, has grown each year. It topped 9,000 fans last year, in only its second year. That turned out to be the biggest crowd in the country for a one-day polo event.

This year, with an expanded event schedule and an amped-up polo lineup including the sport’s top players, a bigger exotic car presence, more vendors, more sponsors, the Polo Party is expected to draw up to 15,000 polo fans and revelers to WestWorld of Scottsdale.

Besides the Porsche, Barrett-Jackson, Scottsdale Ferrari-Maserati, Ferrari Club and Arizona Lamborghini Club, Volvo of Phoenix, Earnhardt Cadillac, Earnhardt Hyundai, and Rally Fighter will all have cars on site for fans to enjoy at this year’s event.

Porsche cars participating will be shown in a variety of classes.  The idea of a Concours (car show) is to show a car in its most perfect condition (usual cleanliness and like-new condition.) In general, each car starts out perfect and as the judge finds something amiss, points are deducted.

Some will be the non-judged category of Display, and others in one of the judged classes.  Judged classes include:

  • Wash & Shine, which only the exterior and interior of the vehicle are judged;
  • Street and Unrestored Classes, where the exterior, interior, storage compartment and engine compartment are judged; and
  • Full Concours, where the complete vehicle is judged, inside and out, including the chassis and underside of the vehicle

Sponsored by Heineken, the City of Scottsdale, Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction, Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show, Scottsdale Ferrari and Maserati, Highline Autos, Molina Fine Jewelers, Alliance Residential and many others,the Scottsdale Polo Championships:  Horses + Horsepower debuted in November of 2011 with approximately 2,300 people in attendance. Scottsdale is the most attended stop on the Professional Golf Association Tour every year and in October of 2012, after receiving national and international exposure, the 2nd Annual Scottsdale Polo Championships was the most attended one-day polo event in the United States and included a three-match showdown featuring some of the biggest names in American polo such as Nic Roldan, Tommy Biddle Jr., and Work to Ride, out of Philadelphia.
