The City Council made a decision at Tuesday night’s meeting to move ahead with full build-out of the City’s multi-generational center, instead of just phase one of the project.
Full build-out will include the multi-gen center, a regional sports park and an aquatic center.
As part of the vote, the council also decided to cash finance the new City Hall building to fund ongoing operation and maintenance costs. The council previously approved the 45,000- square foot City Hall facility and accompanying 11,000-square foot police station at a total cost of $18.8 million.
Finance director Tom Duensing said the impact on secondary property taxes wouldn’t be staggering. For fiscal year 2013-14 (which begins July 2013), the amount of property taxes each resident would pay for the completion of phase one is $130.81 per $100,000 of assessed home value. Duensing said that number will rise to $176.09 in order to finance the completion of the entire project.
