In 2008, Central Arizona College officials told Pinal County residents the college was becoming maxed out and if citizens wanted more offerings, CAC needed room to grow.
The response was the approval of nearly $100 million in bonds by 58 percent of the vote, which gave the college the money to renovate existing campuses and build new campuses in Maricopa and San Tan Valley.
Five years later, CAC has opened the doors to the Maricopa Campus and expects to open the San Tan Campus in the spring.
“We are very excited,” said Tom DiCamillo, marking director for the college. “The one big thing with Maricopa is the whole city is excited with that campus because it’s their own. It’s a fairly strong and vibrant community and … if any student wanted any type of college they had to drive a decent way.”
College officials will officially dedicate the Maricopa Campus on Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and other events.
