A plan to tear down Phoenix’s only Olympic-size, competition-certified swimming pool to make way for a residential development is moving forward.

The Phoenix City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved an application to rezone a 10-acre parcel on the northwest corner of 30th Street and Campbell Avenue.

Brophy College Prep, a Jesuit boys school in central Phoenix, is in negotiations to sell the property to Ryland Homes, a Gilbert-based developer that seeks to break ground on 35 single-family homes there next year.
