Queen Creek Mayor Gail Barney has been appointed to the State of Arizona’s Municipal Tax Code Commission. This commission is a nine-member group responsible for reviewing and commenting on language submitted by any city, town or taxpayer for the purpose of changing taxable activities, procedures or regulations relating to the Model City Tax Code. Mayor Barney will join the other members of the commission, including representatives from Snowflake, Goodyear, Tempe, Lake Havasu City, Prescott and the Department of Revenue.

“I’m proud to represent Queen Creek and other small communities on this important commission,” said Mayor Barney. “The regulations that affect the model city tax code affect every resident of Arizona, and I am honored to be chosen to serve on behalf of those residents.”

The Model Tax Code provides a platform to create standardization amongst the cities and towns concerning taxability of items under the Transaction Privilege Tax or sales tax. The Commission works to resolve issues that arise concerning everything from licensing and compliance to dispute resolution between the business community and the municipalities.
