Council votes 5-2 against billboards at Bell Road/Loop 101

After months of arguing, thousands of pieces of information and numerous delays in a vote, the city council voted 5-2 March 25 to deny a rezoning application to place billboards at the Palm Canyon Business Park.

The vote denies a request from Becker Boards to place two static billboards on the property at Bell Road and Loop 101 freeway.

Gary Sherwood and Norma Alvarez were the lone councilmembers to vote for the billboards.

“I just feel that Glendale needs any revenues that we can get,” Alvarez said. “We have the old, ugly billboards in Ocotillo district and we need money because of the mistakes in the past of the council.”
