Buckeye mayor gives first state of the city address

Mayor Jackie Meck delivered the first State of the City address in Buckeye on May 13 to more than 200 people, telling those gathered of the fast-paced economic development in the rapidly growing Southwest Valley enclave.

In January, Buckeye became a city after voters approved a change in its designation from a town. Buckeye never had a state-of-the-town address.

Meck said that in 2000, the town’s population was about 6,000 residents. Today, the city is nearing 60,000 residents.
