Field suddenly crowded for Cochise County sheriff election

Cochise County interim Sheriff Rodney Rothrock

The once limited field of potential candidates for sheriff has become increasingly more crowded after four more people entered the race as write-in candidates, including Rod Rothrock, chief deputy of the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.

Surrounded by about two dozen supporters at the Ladd Ranch just west of Bisbee on Thursday evening, Rothrock said he wanted to wait until after the Wednesday memorial service for Sheriff Larry Dever to announce his candidacy.

“It is because of my respect for him and the Dever family that I chose to wait to make this announcement until after the service. This was not an easy decision for me to make, but one I feel is necessary,” he said.
