Widening of Hunt Highway continues

With a significant increase in traffic counts over the last few years, Pinal County is pressing forward with its Hunt Highway widening project.

According to data from Pinal County Public Works, Hunt Highway, between Queen Creek and Florence, had an average daily trip count of 19,027 in 2013, up from 12,023 in 2007.

The existing 12-mile stretch of road was designed for about 12,000 daily trips.

Celeste Pemberton, District 2 project manager for Pinal County Public Works, said relief for motorists is on the way, as Hunt Highway is in the process of expanding from two to five lanes — two lanes in both directions and a center, two-way left turn lane.
