Tax lien pops up in Corporation Commission race

Arizona Corporation Commission candidate Tom Forese hopes to clear a disputed tax lien, reports Ryan Randazzo at The Arizona Republic.

A spokesman for the Republican candidate said Forsee hopes to resolve a nearly $6,000 tax lien filed against him in California.

Forese is one of four Republicans running for two open seats on the Arizona Corporation Commission. Forese, a state representative, is running as a team with Doug Little, and they face former Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Parker and state representative Lucy Mason in the Aug. 26 primary.

The $5,962.29 lien was filed in 2009 for the 2006 tax year. It is composed of about $4,000 in unpaid taxes, plus penalties and interest, according to the document filed with the Sacramento County Recorder.

Forese spokesman Alan Heywood said the lien is not connected to the commercial real-estate firm, CRESA Partners, that Forese worked with in California.

“Tom holds on to the hope that in the end there will be an acceptable resolution to the issue,” Heywood said. “He will do what is reasonably necessary to bring the matter to a close.”
