CAC board mulls tax hike

The Central Arizona College board is proposing a tax increase of nearly 85 cents per $100 net assessed valuation following a state funding reduction that could grow next year.

The Legislature recently considered taking away all state funding for the year beginning July 1 but settled for a reduction.

“Our hands are essentially tied,” said Chris Wodka, vice president of financial and administrative services for the college. “We have increased tuition as much as possible. How much more can students take?”

The tax increase for the proposed $105 million budget, discussed by the board Tuesday at a meeting at the Aravaipa Campus, calls for a tax rate of nearly $2.76, which is the limit the college can ask for.
