Kevin Taylor, the Democratic candidate for Pinal County sheriff, is on the defensive this week after allegations of an arrest related to a grand-theft warrant surfaced late last week.
According to The Arizona Republic, records from Erie County, Ohio, where Taylor worked as a sheriff’s deputy from 1983 to 1986, show he was arrested in July 1985 on a grand-theft warrant tied to information he provided on a car-loan application.
Taylor says he never mentioned the incident before because he claims he was never arrested.
“I was contacted by the local police department because of misinformation they had received in regards to loans I had obtained,” Taylor said in a statement released late Wednesday. “I met with detectives without an attorney present and gave a truthful statement and until The Arizona Republic’s article, I had never heard anything else about the inquiry, and no criminal charges were ever filed against me for grand theft.”
