After the massive annexations approved in the beginning of 2015 extended Coolidge’s city limits much further south, there remained some gaps to fill, and one of the larger ones has now been taken care of.
The Coolidge City Council on Aug. 24 unanimously approved the annexation of 245 acres of land that is primarily frontage along Highway 87 and the railroad between Hanna Road and Shedd Road. This will run the city limits right up to the city limits of Eloy that includes the correctional facilities between Hanna and Arica Road.
This annexation originally included 454 acres. After a public hearing on May 11, several property owners expressed their desire to stay unincorporated, and they were removed from the plan, leaving only property owners who wished to become a part of Coolidge. During the large annexations, councilmember Rob Hudelson voted in opposition because some owners opposed being incorporated, but this one did not have that problem.
