Powell in favor of Grande Sports World; others prefer site off Peart, Cottonwood

Not one City Council member objects to creating a community recreation center, though where to put such a facility is a matter of differing opinions.
During a special study session on Wednesday, council members discussed what direction to take the proposed project about a week after reviewing the facility’s first conceptual design.
At last week’s council meeting, a floor plan was presented that illustrated what a 55,000-square-foot facility might look like on a piece of land donated specifically for the project, located near Peart Road and north of Cottonwood Lane.
The 10-acre site is not big enough to accommodate the city’s future growth, according to Councilman Dick Powell.
