Scott Smith named new Valley Metro CEO

One of the biggest transit boosters in the Valley, former Mesa Mayor Scott Smith, is the new CEO of Valley Metro.

Smith will remove the interim tag from his title as the Valley Metro Regional Public Transportation Agency and Valley Metro Light Rail boards named him the group’s new CEO.

Valley Metro conducted a national search for a CEO starting at the beginning of the year after CEO Steven Banta was fired in December 2015 following inappropriate and allegedly improper travel and entertainment reimbursements totaling more than $477,000.
