With drums beating and people chanting, the front lawn of Flagstaff City Hall looked like something from the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in the Dakotas Tuesday night.
Hundreds of people gathered to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline, holding signs that read “Oil is dead” and chanting, “You can’t drink oil, keep it in the soil.”
Alayna Contreras is a graduate student at NAU and organized the DAPL rally outside City Hall and the anti-Trump protest last Wednesday, too. Contreras has been following the events at Standing Rock on Facebook and finally decided to go there with her husband and daughter this past October.
