The owner of the 1952 David and Gladys Wright House will ask the Phoenix City Council this week to end dueling efforts to designate the structure as a historic landmark.
The city’s pending designation request would limit development on surrounding land, his team says, and is hindering plans for the structure’s future.
For years, the city council has delayed voting on an application initiated by the city to ensure the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house would not be torn down under a previous owner. Supporters of a project that would open the home commercially and residents of the surrounding Arcadia neighborhood opposed to that say the stakes of withdrawal are high.
