Why Marriott put two of its brands in the same downtown Phoenix building

Earlier in May, Marriott International Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR) opened two new hotels in downtown Phoenix — a 200-suite Residence Inn and a 120-room Courtyard hotel.

They’re in the heart of downtown Phoenix, where the urban environment is incredibly dense and as a result real estate is getting pricier.

Good thing Marriott put both their hotel brands in the same building.

“The footprint is smaller, and it’s less expensive for an owner in a dense environment,” said Jim Paulon, general manager for the Residence Inn/Courtyard Phoenix Downtown.
