Arizonans’ tax burden less than most states, study shows. “To determine the residents with the biggest tax burdens, WalletHub compared the 50 states across the three tax types of state tax burdens — property taxes, individual income taxes and sales and excise taxes — as a share of total personal income in the state.” Tap on for the findings, expert commentary, plus “more fun (or not so fun) facts about 2018’s tax landscape,” via “WalletHub’s Tax Day Facts infographic.” http://bit.ly/2HlrDPs

Word through a senator: Ducey gun proposal has NRA backing. Prompted by the Parkland high school mass shooting allegedly by a mentally disturbed former student, Gov. Ducey’s bill includes provisions to take guns away from those deemed a danger to themselves or others. Ducey staffers told Senate President Steve Yarbrough, R-Chandler, the NRA would support the governor’s plan when a bill is introduced. Tempe’s ‘dark money’ ban spreads to other cities. “Tempe is the first city to have a dark money disclosure law squelched by its state. Phoenix voters were likely to consider a companion measure,” but in light of the Arizona Legislature having passed the bill “blocking local governments from imposing such transparency rules on nonprofit groups,” what will the city do now? Governing (RELATED, in Rose Law Group Reporter: “Secret money in Arizona is a monster, says a retiring lobbyist.”) http://bit.ly/2uZvbEr

Latinos push for 200,000 registered voters in hopes of flipping Arizona.  The state “has been considered solidly Republican for decades, but results in the 2016 election were nearly equally divided between Democrats and Republicans.” And that has “convinced David Garcia, a Democrat running for governor, that Arizona could be purple by the end of this year.” Cronkite News. http://bit.ly/2ExZEJf

THAT’S WHAT FUNDS ARE FOR? Federal funds intended for Arizona’s poorest families instead goes to child-safety efforts. “While it’s legal and within the state’s wide discretion to use the funds on cases related to child abuse and neglect, ‘that’s not what the [Temporary Assistance for Needy Families] funds are for,’ said Karen McLaughlin, director of budget and research for Arizona’s Children’s Action Alliance.” Arizona Daily Star. http://bit.ly/2Eyc8QW

SNL: The president doesn’t care about you. “Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump struggled to read, battled to remember the names of three Baltic nations and fought to stay awake after daydreaming about Roseanne Barr at a staged press conference on ‘Saturday Night Live.’ ” (And Baldwin/Trump throws in a bit of tariff talk to boot, on Chinese “fireworks” and “finger traps.”) Replay and recap courtesy of Huffington Post, and pretty darn funny in Rose Law Group Reporter. http://bit.ly/2HlNJRP
