Homebuilding isn’t keeping up with growth, development group says

Rose Law Group Reporter

The housing-shortage pinch is being felt across the country and in “more surprising places,” including Arizona, new research findings in The Wall Street Journal state.

The commissioned research — from a group that includes real estate developers and calls itself the Up For Growth National Coalition — shows that since year 2000 Arizona and Utah have come up short when it comes to the construction of new housing.

And the findings also show that supply in metro Phoenix is running low, with only “about three months of supply at the current sales pace.”

The Up For Growth National Coalition advocates theloosening” of building regulations” to encourage new home construction. And in California, state Sen. Scott Wiener has taken that idea run with it, with a proposal that would allow home building in places even “if local zoning doesn’t permit it.”
