Peoria talked up preservation as it identified historic properties in old town 20 years ago, but in the recent years the city pushed to tear them down.

When she was little, Anna Aguayo would spend some of her days next to her dad as he cut meat inside the refrigerated back room of a cement block building in Old Town Peoria.
Other days, she would count stock at the family store. They sold everything from meat to art supplies, and the usual cigarettes, sodas and snacks.
Her oldest sister, Juanita, would help her mom, Calletena, with the books for Aguayo’s Market.
