74-year-old woman to participate in ‘hottest race on Earth’ in Scottsdale

In one month, hundreds of runners will gather in the Phoenix area to beat the heat in the so-called “hottest race on Earth.”

But one of those runners will stand out from the rest: A 74-year-old woman will be the oldest participant in this year’s Beat the Heat race in Scottsdale.

Franceska Drozdz told KTAR News 92.3 FM that she didn’t even consider running until the 1970s, when she was in her thirties and her husband was stationed at an Air Force base in Hawaii.
